Myth - mold and bacteria on the rotor

It is often claimed that moisture recovery rotors allow mold and bacteria to grow on the damp surface of the rotor matrix. When moisture is recovered, there is no condensation of moisture on the surface of the leaves of the sorption rotor. Water molecules are absorbed as molecules in a sorption coating. Therefore, there is usually no wet surface on the rotor matrix coating. However, at a low outdoor temperature and a sufficiently high humidity of the exhaust air, moisture (condensing rotor) condenses on the aluminum rotor. Suppliers of sorption rotors today routinely perform hygiene tests, in which the rotor foil is placed in a damp test chamber and the growth of mold and bacteria is monitored. The results of these tests show an extremely low risk of mold or bacteria.
